Well, I guess it had to happen sooner rather than later. Schumi’s run and 100% record at winning the races this season was dramatically ended by an incident in the Monaco tunnel with Juan Pablo Montoya. A coming together during a safety car that was deemed a “racing incident” by the stewards resulted in Michael coming away with null points for the Monaco Grand Prix. Even with this interruption in his point tally, he still leads the championship after 6 races with an impressive 18 points over his teammate Barrichello.
The race itself was rather thrilling, what with Ralf causing his own accidents, and the duel at the front between Trulli and Button. Whether Michael could have claimed his 6th win if he had been left in the race is unknown, but it was certainly one of the highlights of this season, that much is certain.
Trulli ended up scoring his maiden win for Renault, with Button finishing second.
Good news is it’s only a week to go before the next race at the European track – wheee!!!!
