Formula One – French GP recap

Well the French Grand Prix was an interesting one, with strategy being the key to victory. The Renaults, on their home ground, seemed to have the edge and upper hand on the Ferrari’s, so rather than a straight fight and attempting to pass the leading Alonso, Ferrari opted to try something different. Switching their strategy from the standard 3-stop race it’s become mid race, to a 4 stop strategy. This meant that Michael got prime track position after being filled light, and then having to find enough of a gap between the second placed blue and yellow car to enable a “splash and dash” stop for fuel and tyres towards the end. The gamble payed off and Michael walked away with another victory of the season! win and meant that poor Alonso had to settle for second place.

Towards the end it looked like the remaining podium spot would be taken up with the other Renault driven by Trulli, but a mistake at the second to last corner allowed a gap that Rubens managed to place his car into to walk away with yet another third place for the Brazilian and further adding to Ferrari’s constructor’s point tally. At this rate, we’ll have that championship sewn up in no time!

This was also the race that the new modified McLaren was introduced and it did fair better than the older model – I mean they actually finished on the same lap as the leaders!!!!! Makes a change eh?

With the F1 roadshow now at the British Grand Prix stop this weekend, and the English weather decidingly chillier and wetter, it’s looking like we should be in for an interesting race. So glad I didn’t decide to get myself some tickets – sitting in the rain that is more than possible, or at home in the dry and warm watching the racing.. — tough choice, eh? )
