The station, formerly known as Terok Nor, was built in orbit around Bajor, so that the rich Uridium deposits could be exploited.

Formerly an old Cardassian Mining Station, called Terok Nor, it was taken over by the Federation in 2369 at the behest of the Bajorans, after the Cardassians withdrew from the Bajoran system.

The Station assumed a great commercial, scientific and strategic importance in 2369, when the Bajoran wormhole was discovered in the Denorios Belt, which linked Bajor with the very distant Gamma Quadrant.

There are normally 300 permanent residents on the station, from a multitude of races

The Station was first seen in the Episode: 'Emissary'
