At the height of his career, Dukat served as prefect of Bajor between 2362 and 2369. This included being in command of the Cardassian mining station of Terok Nor.

Dukat is extremely clever, and very calculating. Little occurs without him being aware of it. He receives intelligence about the events on Deep Space Nine, moments after they occur and whilst he is on Cardassia.

Dukat was a clear opponent of the Cardassian withdrawl of Bajor in 2369

In 2370 he was made commander of the Second Order

In 2372, he was made military advisor to the Cardassian Council until his illegitimate daught, Ziyal is discovered. He was then demoted to the Captaincy of a small cargo ship called the Groumall.

He managed to capture a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, and becomes a rougue Cardassian Freedom fighter during 2372. This act gained him popularity amongst the Cardassian people.

In 2373, he was made ruler of the Cardassian Union after forming an alliance with the Dominion. He was later captured by the Federation, but managed to escape, and then allied himself with the Pah-Wraiths.

In 2373, Dukat entered secret negotiations with the Dominion, an act which proved successful. He was made leader of his people, and retook Deep Space Nine with the help of his Dominion allies.

When the war turns sour, and the Dominion forces are forced to abandon Terok Nor, his daughter Ziyal is killed by Damar. This plunges Dukat into insanity. Not only was the victory that was within his reach snatched away from him, but his daughter was killed infront of him.

Dukat managed to escape Federation custody whilst onroute to Starbase 621, when the ship that is carrying him comes under attack from the Dominion fleet.

His need for revenge on Captain Sikso leads Dukat to form an unholy alliance with the Pah-wraiths.

In 2374, Dukat allows himself to become possessed by a Pah-wraith, after performing an ancient ritual. He returns to the Federation occupied Deep Space Nine shrine, and releases the Pah-wraith into the orb. But not before he kills Jadzia Dax. His actions cause the wormhole to close and the orbs to turn black.

Following this incident, Dukat becomes a strong believer in the Pah-wraith religion, and sets up a cult on the abandoned Empok Nor.

In 2375, Dukat turns to Damar for help. He needs transport, false documents and cosmetic surgery to alter his cardassian features into that of a Bajoran.

Dukat mascarades as Anjohl Tennan from Relliketh Province, and seeks an audience with Kai Winn. Then he begins to undermine her faith in the prophets.

Dukat suffers a loss of his sight, whe he attempts to read the Kosst Amojan, which only the Kai can study. Winn cast his out as a begger as a lesson. However, the Pah-wraiths later restore his sight, after all, he is their emissary.

Dukat travels to the fire caves with Winn, and the pah-wraith restoration is completed. The ancient text requires a scrifice, something Winn is all ready to give. She poisons the wine she offers to Dukat, and he dies. However Dukat is resurrected by the Pah-wraiths, as a powerful entity, complete with his Cardassian features restored.

He easily dispatches Winn, and then faces the Prophets emissary in a final showdown

Dukat is thrown into the raging flames of the fire caves, when Sisko plunges the two of them over the edge, in a last hope.

Dukat was first seen in the Episode: 'Emissary'
