Ezri is the Ninth Host of the Dax Symbiont.

When Jadzia was killed by a possessed Dukat in the Bajoran Temple on Deep Space Nine, Dr. Bashir managed to save the symbiont, and not the host. The symbiont was taken aboard the USS Destiny for transportation back to Trill. However, half way there, the symbiont took a turn for the worst, and needed an immediate host.

The Destiny was Ezri's first posting since she graduated from the academy. She served as assistant counselor under Captain Raymer. As she was the only Trill onboard at the time, the symbiont was placed in her, and she became joined.

Ezri had not undergone the rigorous training that normal Trill initiates undergo before they are joined, instead she was given a fifteen minute lecture by the ships surgeon, who wasn't even a Trill.

For several months after the joining, Ezri was confused, she kept mixing up her pronouns and found it difficult to seperate herself from her past hosts.

Before the joining Ezri used to be left handed, but since the process has become right handed. She also now suffers from space sickness, which likely stems from Torais Daxs death in a shuttle accident. However unlike some of Dax's previous hosts, she dislikes iced Raktijino, which was a firm favourite of both Jadzia and Curzon

Ezri's family runs a mining company in the Sappora system, however Ezri had no interest in it, and pursued a career in starfleet.
