Jonathan is a good humoured, resourceful and independant man. He has a love of dogs, so much so his pet beagle, Porthos, accompanies him on the ship, and is usually found sleeping in his ready room

Archer did originally harbour resentment towards the Vulcans for both their patronising attitude and because he believed that they were impeding humanities spacefaring progress by holding them back. It dind't help that it was the Vulcan's interference that meant his father didn't get to see Enterprise before he died.

Archer led the historic mission that retrned the injured Klingon Klaang to Qo'noS in 2151, which meant that Enterprise's mission and departure had to be moved up. For all intents and purposes it was a success.
