Geordi was born blind in 2335 due to a birth defect.

Geordi was caught in a housefire when he was 5, he was rescued by his parents, but for months after the incident, it was important for him to know where his parents were.

He had a pet Circassian cat when he was 8 years old.

Because his parents careers meant that they were forced to move around a lot, Geordi found that he had a knack for languages. One of those was Hahliian.

Prior to 2372, he wore a device called a VISOR that allowed him to see better than humans. The device, however, tended to cause Geordi continuous pain. He didn't get the instrument until after his 5th birthday.
(VISOR is an acronym for Visual Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement. It is a slim device that is worn over the face like a pair of sunglasses. The VISOR permits not only vision in visible light but also across much of the elctromagnetic specturm including infrared and radiowaves.)

His mother, Silva LaForge, was the commanding officer of the USS Hera, and his father was an exobiologist.

One of his first assignments, was as a shuttle pilot for the Jovian run between Jupiter and Saturn.

He first met Captain Picard after he piloted his shuttle on an inspection run. Picard made a comment about the engines, and Geordi stayed up that night, correcting it.

Geordi served as an Ensign, under the command of Captain Zimbata, aboard the USS Victory. It was during that tour of duty that he visited Tarchanennen III, and was infected, along with his best friend Susanna Leijten, by an alien DNA strand, that eventually compelled them to return back to the planet, where they underwent a transformation into a native Tarchannen lifeform.

Geordi was orginally assigned as the flight controller or CONN aboard the Enterprise-D in 2364. He was eventually transfered down to engineering, where he was promoted to full Lieutenant, and assigned as Chief Engineer.

In 2372, Geordi had Occular Implants fitted which replaced his usual VISOR instrument.

When not on duty, Geordi enjoys painting, model ship building, swimming, skindiving and Sherlock holmes holodeck programs with Data.
