Picard failed in 2322 to gain entrance to Starfleet Academy at the age of 17, but was admitted a year later. As a first year cadet in 2323 Picard became the only freshman ever to win the Starfleet Academy marathon on Danula II.
Shortly after graduating from Starfleet Academ with the clas of 2337, Picard was on leave at Starbase Earhart, where he picked a fight with 3 Nausicaans at the Bonestell Recreation Facility. One of the Nausicaans stabbed Picard through the heart, leaving him with an artificial heart.
Lt. Picard was a bridge officer aboard the USS Stargazer when the Captain was killed. Picard took charge and was then later offered the command. He was then Captain of the Stargazer for about 20 yeras, until 2355, when it was nearly destroyed at the 'Battle of Maxia' by a then unknown Ferengi spacecraft.
In 2363, Picard was given command of starfleets flagship, the galaxy class Enterprise-D, NCC-1701-D.
Picard was offered a promotion to the Admiralty in 2364, but declined, stating that he could serve the Federation better as a starship commander.
In late 2366, Picard was abducted by the Borg, where he was mutilated and transformed into Locutus of Borg. He was forced to co-operate in the devastating battle of Wolf 359, in which 39 Federation starships and crews were destroyed.
In 2367, Picard assumed the Klingon role of Arbiter of Succession following the death of the Klingon leader, K'mpec. It was during that ceremonythat Gowron was elected leader of the Klingon High Council.
Picard is very much a Renaissance man. He enjoys drama, old books and astrophysics. He is an avid amateur archaeologist, and occasionally publishes scientific papers. He even adressed the Federation Archaeology Council in 2367.
Jean-Luc is also an accomplished horseman, as well as has a flair for music. He used to play the piano when he was young. However his current deep love of music probably stems from an incident in 2368, whilst aboard the Enterprise-D, where he received a lifetime of memories of a man named Kamin, an Ironweaver from the now dead planet of Kataan. Kamin had played a Ressikan flute, an item Picard has treasured, and played.
Picard also enjoys fencing, and has an interest in tropical fish, and he keeps one in his readyroom.
His favourite beverage is Earl Grey Tea, hot
Picard has had a number of love interests. He was very much a ladies man at the Academy, but in later years, he has found himself not given to casual relationships.
In 2327, whilst he was Starbase Earhart, he had a date with Penny Muroc. He was also best friends with a woman called Marta Batanides, with whom he was attracted to, but the pair of them never acted on those feelings. Something he later regretted.
In 2342, Jean-Luc found himself in a relationship with Jenice Manheim, whilst he was stationed at Paris, Earth. He eventually stood her up at a little Paris cafe, something he managed to right, when he met up with Mrs. Manheim aboard the Enterprise-D.
In 2355, he dated Phillipa Louvois, who later on became Judge Advocate General, and was responsible for the court martial hearing after the loss of the stargazer.
Inbetween 2266 and 2267, Picard had a brief liason with an archaeologist called Vash. The pair met on Risa, where Picard was on one his rare holidays, and the two found love over a common interest, archaeology.
In 2368, whilst under the influence of the Kataan probe, Picard, then Kamin, fell in love with and married Eline, with whom he had two beautiful children.
Picard fell in love with Neela Daren, Head of Stellar Cartography, in 2369. They both shared a love of music, which grew into a relationship. However it did not last. Picard found himself unable to put her life in danger on further away missions, and neither of them were willing to sacrifice their careers.
Beverly Crusher is a rather special case. She is his Chief Medical Officer, and one of his closest friends. He has loved her for over 20 years, although originally he thought those feelings were hormonal rather than emotional. She was married to his best friend, so he never acted on his love for the fiery red head. When they started spending more time together, the three of them, he realised his feelings were much more, and felt guilty, for having those kinds of feelings for his best friends wife. That was also originally why he didn't want her on the Enterprise when he took command in 2363, he wasn't sure how he would react around her. Even after Jack's death, he made a promise to himself that he would never tell her how he felt, in fear of betraying his friends memory. However the truth finally came out whilst on a diplomatic mission to Kes-Pritt, where the two where telepathically linked.
Jean-Luc Picard was first seen in the Episode: 'Encounter At Farpoint'
