Other Information :
Riker's first assignment was aboard the USS Pegasus in 2357, which disappeared under mysterious circumstances. It was later revealed the crew of the Pegasus were partipating in illegal experiements with a phased cloak, which under the terms of the Treaty of Algeron, were expressly forbidden.
Riker has also served aboard the USS Potemkin, and then the USS Hood, before being made first officer aboard the Federation's Flagship, the Enterprise-D.
Riker was romantically involved with Deanna Troi whilst on Betazed, but he chose his career over his relationship by accepting a posting to the USS Potemkin. It was during this assignment, that he he led a rescue mission to Nervala IV, and in light of his actions, he was promoted to Lt. Commander.
However unbeknown to him, during transportation an accident created 2 copies of William Riker. The transporter signal was split, one materialised back on the USS Potemkin, the other was reflected back down on the planet. It wasn't until a return trip with the Enterprise-D, that this was discovered. To avoid any confusion the 'copy' went by his middle name, Thomas.
Riker was promoted to executive officer aboard the USS Hood under the command of Captain Robert Desoto.
Riker accepted the posting to the Enterprise in 2363, even though he had been offered his own command, the USS Drake. He was again offered command of a starship in 2365, this time the USS Aries, which he declined, and then in 2366, he again refused the USS Melbourne in favour of remaining onboard the flagship.
In 2365, he became the first Starfleet officer to serve aboard a Klingon vessel, the Pagh, during an Officer Exchange Program.
By 2369, Riker had been decorated 5 times.
Riker enjoyed cooking, although some of his creations left much to be desired. He had a passion for old Earth Jazz, and was a pretty fair Trombone player. He is an avid poker player, and enjoyed a bout of Anbo-jyutsu.
William Riker was first seen in the Episode: 'Encounter At Farpoint'
