TNG Title

"Space.. the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise, it's continuing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before..." - An updated mission brief, for a more politically correct crew.

The Next Generation aired in 1987, and introduced a brand new crew to a very familiar name. Although this Enterprise was very much different. The ship was larger, with a capacity to carry a complimentary crew of over 1000, and the capacity to evacuate many more. It had a sleeker design and was very much 24th century technology.

The new series was set in the future.. or rather more in the future than it's predecessor. Taking place in the 24th century, things had changed. The Federation was no longer at war with the Klingons - they were now allies, and they introduced a few more 'bad guys' and aliens, amongst some of the most notorious were the Borg, the Ferengi and the Cardassians.

The Next Generation also manged to outrun it's predecessor, the former ran for a total of 3 seasons, the next generation ran for a total of 7. It premiered in 1987 with "Encounter at Farpoint" a 2 hour pilot, and ended it's run with "All Good Things.." in 1994... before hitting the big screen with it's first feature film, which was more of a cross over, a 'handing over the torch' from the previous cast to this one.
