At the age of 13, Kirk was one of only 9 surviving eyewitnesses to the massacre of some 4,000 colonists on Tarsus IV by Kodos the Executioner.
Kirk lost his older brother, George Samuel, and his sister in law, Aurelan, on Deneva in 2267 due to an invasion of Denevan neural parasites. Kirk's nephew, Peter managed to survive.
Kirk had a couple of close friends at the academy, amonst them was Gary Mitchell, who was a student of Kirk's when he was an instructor. Mitchell once took a poisoned dart aimed for Kirk. Another was Ben Finney, who evennamed his daughter Jamie, after Kirk. However a rift developed between the two men, after Kirk reported a mistake of Finney's.
Kirk was the commander of the Original Enterprise, NCC-1701, during it's historic 5-year mission during 2264-2269. However his first assignment was about the USS Farragut.
Kirk became the first Captain of a starship ever to stand trial in 2267, after being accused of the death of Ben Finney, but he was eventually proved innocent of any wrongdoing.
Quite a few of Kirk's voyages involved timetravel, and according to the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations, had amassed 17 seperate temporal violations during his career, more than any other person on file.
He is the only cadet ever to win the 'no-win' Kobayashi Maru scenario at Starfleet Academy. He achieved this by reprogramming the computer so that it was possible to win. For this innovative thinking, he got a commendation.
Following the return of the Enterprise from it's 5 year mission in 2270, Kirk was promoted to Admiral, and assigned to the job of Head of Starfleet operations
He had one son, David Marcus, who was born in 2261 to his mother Dr. Carol Marcus. Unfortunatel David died in 2286 at the hands of a klingon on the Genesis Planet. Kirk did not know of David's existance until a few years prior to his death.
By 2267, he had earned an impressive list of commendations and awards from Starfleet including:
| Commandations | Awards |
| The Palm Leaf of Axanar Peace Mission | Medal of Honor |
| The Grankite Order of tactics | Silver Palm with Cluster |
| The Preantares Ribbon of Commendation | Starfleet Citation for Conspicuious Gallantry |
| Kragite Order of Heroism |
Kirk was unsuccessful in maintaining a long-term relationship with any woman, although he was involved with many different women during his life. The reason being as his intense passion for his career always interfered. Amongst his many conquests were, Dr. Carol Marcus, Ruth, Janice Lester, Areel Shaw, Miramanee, Edith Keeler and Antonia
He was an intensely driven individual who enjoyed hazardous recreational activities, like orbital skydiving. One such recreational activity nearly cost him his life, when he was climbing the moutainface of El Capitan in Yosemite Nation Park on Earth. Kirk was also an accomplished equestrian, and had a horse, and a mountain cabin, as well as a Great Dane called Butler.
He played a pivotal role in saving the Historic Khitomer Peace Conference, even after he was accused of murdering Chancellor Gorkon, the leader of the Empire, and got exiled to Rura Penthe with Dr. McCoy. They promptly escaped, and helped uncover the conspiracy of key individuals from both the Federation and the Klingon Empire that did not want peace between their two peoples.
He was presumed killed during the maiden voyage of the Enterprise-B, when that ship helped to save El-Aurian refugees from an energy ribbon called the Nexus. When the engineering section of that ship was hit by the ribbon, Kirk was in engineering and was thought to have been blown out into space. It was not until about 78 years later, that he was found alive and well in the Nexus by then Captain of the Enterprise Jean-Luc Picard.
Kirk met his demise on Veridiian III, whilst he attempted to help Jean-Luc Picard stop madman, Dr. Tolian Soren from destroying the Veridiian sun, thus helping to preserve the millions of lives that would have been killed when the shockwave from the sun's destruction ripped through the system.
Captain Kirk was first seen in the Episode: 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'
