Kim was one of the officers that joined the USS Voyager, just prior to it's disappearance in 2371.

When he attended the accademy, from which he graduated on stardate 47918, he was editor of the academy newspaper for a year. During that time, he reported on some of the first activity of the Maquis.

Harry was his parents' only son, and he enjoyed playing the clarinet in the Julliard Youth Symphony. Even when Voyager was lost, Harry spent a weeks worth of replicator rations to replicate a clarinet so he could still practice. He also enjoyed playing Tennis, volleyball and Parisses squares

Harry was killed in 2372, when part of Voyager experienced an explosive decompression after entering a spatial scission. A duplicate of Kim, from the duplicate Voyager returned to the original ship, replacing Harry Kim

On stardate 50698, whilst part of an away team, Harry was infected with a Taresian genetically engineered retrovirus, which gave him the genetic memories that compelled him to head to Taresia. In reality, the Taresians planned to harvest genetic material from him so it could be used in their procration process.
