When Tuvok first applied, and joined Starfleet, he served under Captain Sulu aboard the USS Excelsior as an Ensign. However he couldn't handle the life, so he resigned not long after.

In 2297 he married his wife, T'Pel.

After he had matured a little, he realised that he was once again ready for Starfleet and reapplied in 2349.

Tuvok has served under Captain Janewat for a number of years, and they have become close friends. She values his wisdom andhis guidance.

Tuvok was the reason that Janeway went after the Maquis in 2371. Tuvok was on an undercover mission to infiltrate the Maquis, when that ship was swept into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker's array.
